”Fitness Soul is unique in every sense of the word.
At first, you feel the premises are basic but then you realise that it’s the people in it that drive you to your goals.
Having joined most gyms in Edinburgh and despite having a membership I always managed to avoid going as I hate them, it’s safe to say I’m slightly addicted to Fitness Soul.
This in itself is a massive achievement for me, simply wanting to exercise.
Fitmamas was where I got hooked, a safe haven of lovely other mums all with the same desire to get fit with kids in tow! My toddler went crazy at first but I persevered through his weekly meltdowns as I thought this is my time and now we all love going to ‘exercise class’ and my eldest loves Doannnaaa!
My fitness and strength have improved like I wouldn’t believe, and the weight has fallen off. I felt confident enough to do the boot camp in June which pushed lots of new boundaries for me, and now I actually miss the 06:30 starts.
Leszek and Joanna are the craziest (good crazy) strongest, holistic, most encouraging and supportive team I’ve ever exercised with and I thank them for helping me love getting fit and strong again! X”

You need to do minimum four classes per week including two conditioning sessions (HIIT, Kettlebells, Ultimate Cross Training or Booster Workouts)!!!

We will be adding two-morning slots on Tuesday and Thursday at 7 am.

You have to follow the healthy eating plan,

Once everyone signs up for the challenge, we will be arranging Open Gym sessions. During the OG sesh, you will be doing the Booster workouts!

My Fitness Soul journey began in October 2016, eight months after the birth of my second child.

My friend and I had discussed our desire to get fit, lose weight and regain our pre-baby bodies, but we were big on talk but short on action.

Then one day I was sent a link to the Fitmamas classes. One of the perceived barriers to getting fit was having the kids with me 24/7 and the Fitmamas classes solved that issue instantly! At first, I was worried about how the kids would get on, but they settled into it quickly and began to look forward to the classes. I particularly enjoyed the community feel and friendly atmosphere at Fitness Soul, and I found myself wanting more. I joined the early morning fit club, three times a week then went on to tacfit, combat conditioning, kettlebells, Konga and HIIT, and even went along for the weekend away. I found each class challenging but rewarding with each instructor offering something different in style and content but all equally valuable.

The instructors had belief in my abilities (even when I didn’t!) and it spurred me on to achieve more than I realised I could.

As a result, my body started to change- I lost fat, gained muscle and my cardiovascular fitness improved. People started commenting on how good I was looking. I felt stronger and more confident. I still have plenty of work to do, but I have confidence that with the ever constant help and encouragement of the instructors and fellow members, I will get there.

It was my first proper triathlon. Sprint distance.

It wasn’t so much the individual discipline’s distances that were daunting to me but the concept of attempting a triathlon. That’s what athletes in proper outfits and equipment do after years of training and enthused with experience and confidence. I am not that person.

Well, after much contemplation, encouragement and a bit of training behind me, I did attempt it. My aim was completing and enjoying it. The swim was easy, 750m in 12°C, relatively warm and neoprene wetsuit plus socks and gloves allowed; it suited me. Transition 1 took a perceived 15min -I need to practice not to fluff! The cycle was fun, 16km, albeit the road conditions challenging with a rough surface and significant traffic and it was chilly with a drizzle in the air. Transition 2 was smoother. The run was expectedly hard. It’s the discipline where I have least experience. It was only 5km but I was in ‘dying mode’ for the first few hundred meters with heavy legs and head, questioning why I would ever do this on a Sunday morning. But ‘survival mode’ sets in, you get on with it and finish it.

The finish, awesome feeling! I finished 4th of 13 in my category, 1st swimmer. The latter is particularly pleasing of course.  The sense of accomplishment and pride is priceless. The post race food and the associated gigantic dessert are the best tasting meals ever. The atmosphere at these events is great. There are many inspiring people around you. Overall, it wasn’t easy, I didn’t expect it to be but it was so worth it! There is much to learn and naturally, the distances are only going to get longer. Next is a Standard length one in Arran in June.

You will learn how to use different tools, from the kettlebells to the bosu and how to program your own training. And then you will become independent.

There is no one way of training. Everyone is different, and everybody’s needs are specific.
