Fitness Is Not About Punishment. It’s About Finding Joy in Movement

Imagine we’re sitting down with a cuppa and a nice slice of cake, and you say something like,
“Ugh, I really should get back to the gym. I’ve been so lazy…”

And I’d stop you right there.

Fitness isn’t supposed to feel like punishment.
It’s not about paying for what you ate last night or trying to shrink yourself into some Instagram version of “acceptable.”

It’s about feeling good.
Moving your body in ways that make you feel alive again.
Strong. Capable. Maybe even a little proud.

You remember when we used to dance like idiots at weddings? Or that time we went hiking and got totally lost but laughed the whole way? That’s what I’m talking about. Movement that fills you with joy, not dread.

Somewhere along the way, we were told that workouts have to be miserable to count.
That sweating buckets and dragging yourself through bootcamp was the only way.

But that’s nonsense.

You can find your own version.
Maybe it’s walking the dog, lifting kettlebells, going for a swim, or dancing around your kitchen to bad 90s music.

It doesn’t have to be perfect. Or intense. Or even all that serious.

It just has to feel good. Like you’re doing something for yourself, not to yourself.

So if you’ve been putting off moving because it feels like a chore, maybe try looking at it a little differently.
Ask yourself: What kind of movement would I actually enjoy today?

Then start there.
That’s where the magic happens.

The Easiest Way to Start Working Out in Leith

Most gyms are super awkward when you’re just starting.
There are loads of machines you don’t know how to use. Everyone looks like they’ve been training for years. And it’s all mirrors and loud noises. It’s not fun.
